This focus area centers on smart home systems, assistive devices, and connected technologies that make living environments safer and more supportive. A key resource is our simulation apartment, a full-scale model of an older adult’s home. This apartment provides a real-world testing ground where we evaluate new technologies under realistic conditions. Designed in collaboration with the FDA, it ensures both safety and effectiveness of the solutions we develop.
The ultimate goal is to enhance independence, reduce accidents at home, lessen reliance on institutional care, and increase comfort and safety for older adults.
